A friend asked me to come up with some character designs for this story their friend wrote called Little K Excavator. I wanted the characters to have the lovable look of Pixar’s Cars and the pre-school TV learning program Bob the Builder which started airing on Nick Jr.

Features:

Transparent Header
Linkable Header
Transparent Footer
Tiled Background Image
Custom Links Colors
PNG’s
Photoshop CS3 files

I found that not only myself but many others have been looking online for various modifications to the default Kubrick wordpress theme. The basic things that I found most wordpress users wanted was a theme that they could customize with there own design’s, mainly the header, links color, and background.

I have included the Photoshop CS3 files so you can modify them to fit your design. I have also used “PNG” image files for there transparency.

Here is a link to some Hex colors (http://www.december.com/html/spec/colorsafe.html) that can be used to change your Link Colors

I would also like to mention that there is a very cool online application for creating custom background tiles (http://www.bgpatterns.com/)

Here is a Preview of this theme.

I just wrapped up the second “Potty Time” animation called “Potty Time with Mr. Potty”. This is a Flash animation that I did with the voice help of my wife Sarah Johnson (who is in the credits of the first Potty Time as Sarah Kreplick, which was created while we were engaged) and my friend James Heirman as Mr. Potty. This is the second “Potty Time” animation and I hope there are more to come.

I hope you enjoy it!

Purple Wigglies is a Flash animation experiment!

I wanted to try an animation experiment, take the situation where two things meet for the first time, and try to create an interesting and funny conversation about something totally unrelated.

I set the premise for the situation and asked my good friend James Heirman to come up with the dialogue and voice recordings for the two characters. I wanted the conversation to follow these rules/guidelines.

Create two voices for character 1 and 2.

Two things meet for the first time.

Character 1 must say “Hello, I say… there was this…..” (describe the image below)

Character 1 can then only talk about this image that I stumbled upon on google, without saying what it is.

Character 2 replies “well that’s fascinating, so its… ” (describe the image below)

Character 2 can then only talk about this image that I stumbled upon on google without saying what it is.

I think this has created an interesting dynamic for coming up with awkwardly funny conversation. I hope to continue this process and release more Purple Wigglies animations in the near future.

Here are two attempts at sketching on the bus to Chicago. The first is a sketch of one of the Flash developers who’s appearance resembles Michael J Fox in Teen Wolf.

teen wolf

This one is an uncany depiction of another Flash developer and his love for the Detroit Red Wings..
“Go Wings”

And whats a trip without drunken pictures!

That’s not a “west side” thats a “west michigan” just representing! haha

Ive ran into the problem when tweening a symbol (graphic) that has assets within it, such as various hand poses, where you want the hand to switch frames on the time line while being tweened. The hack way to do this is add a new layer where you want the hand asset to change frames and continue the motion from there. The problem is that you get a ton of layers.

If you control click on the frame or multiple frames and choose “create motion tween” it will assume by default that you want them to be “synced” and this assumption pisses me off.

The way around this is to click on the frame, go to the properties inspector, then click “motion” in the drop down, and un-check the “sync” box if it is checked. This is also a pain in the butt, when working on deeply nested and constantly changing assets.

So I put together this Unsync tween command, which I picked up from Warren over at CHF, download the zip and follow the install directions.

Then every time you want to tween, click “Commands” and “unsync tween”, or Give it a hotkey and you’re all set.
